Flashback to the early 2000’s- me sitting at the computer desk at my parent’s home where the ever-familiar sound of the dial-up internet could be heard ringing away. I was deep into my searching this time- I had to find the perfect MySpace layout. I’d come across a potentially appealing layout, I copied the html code and pasted it into a MySpace section, viewed my profile… another less than perfect outcome. I knew exactly how I wanted my profile to look, and that there had to be a way for me to make that happen. I opened a search engine and typed ‘how to change html code for MySpace layouts’... and that was the beginning of my exploration into the world of programming....
.... Fast-forward 15 years- I earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and completed all necessary pre-requisites to apply to Doctor of Physical Therapy programs. I researched every Doctor of Physical Therapy program in the country in attempt to find that perfect-fit program in which to submit my application. I knew that I was a strong candidate; I had a good GPA and GRE scores, plenty of observation hours across multiple specialties, and I had excellent leadership experience as President and Captain of my lacrosse team in college. After a whole lot of soul searching, I did not apply to a single program.
My mind kept taking me back to a commitment that I made to myself years ago- I would not settle for an ordinary life; I promised myself a life that is nothing short of extraordinary. I knew that I didn't feel the passion in my heart for Physical Therapy that I saw in my other colleagues. Once I acknowledged and accepted this for myself- I began my journey towards the extraordinary life that I had always imagined.
I've spent the last two years passionately diving into the concepts of Computer Science as a student at the University of Colorado, Boulder. I've discovered a passion for programming and problem solving within myself that reminds me of that same familiar thirst for knowledge that I first felt back in the early 2000's when changing lines of html code for my MySpace page. I recently graduated in May of 2020, and I am motivated and ready to begin an extraordinary career.
